NEW MOVES, INC. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit dance and movement arts organization.
Founded in New York City in 1994 by Denise McClellan, NEW MOVES brings innovative projects, classes, workshops, programs, intensives, multimedia productions and performances to the public. Programs have ranged from dance to yoga to martial arts to sports, and have been presented in collaboration with other art forms. They are generally site-specific, and available to those of all ages and backgrounds.
NEW MOVES, INC. operates for educational and charitable purposes.
Based on the concept of the dynamic art of motion as it relates to self-awareness and expression, and to the human movement potential, NEW MOVES projects are developed by expanding both performing and healing arts techniques and philosophies to facilitate other areas of learning, performance and activity. The process is kinesthetic and presents a fresh approach to participating in movement activities as they relate to interpersonal development and intellectual stimulation. Geared toward self-growth, superceding challenges and raising aesthetic awareness, NEW MOVES helps us take another look at the definition of the art of movement.
NEW MOVES, INC. current programs serve the community through dance and yoga.
Present programs are the Rhythms of Life Dance & Yoga Workshops– “Balancing Movement & Stillness,” and the Free Community Yoga Outreach Classes, found in the Programs section of this site. Other outreach programs have included: the America Dances Project, Gotta Move! Program for Youth, New Moves Dance Ensemble, Rhythms & Motion Classes, Life-Force Pulse Classes, and Body & Movement Awareness Workshops, and they can be found in the Archives.
