What does NEW MOVES do?

NEW MOVES brings innovative dance, yoga and movement arts experiences to the public through its programs and projects. Such projects include workshops, performances, retreats, creative events, multimedia productions and movement education programs. Based on the concept of the dynamic art of motion as it relates to self-awareness, self-expression, and the human potential, NEW MOVES projects are developed by expanding dance and yoga techniques and philosophies to facilitate other areas of learning, performance and activity.

The process is kinesthetic and presents a fresh approach to participating in movement as a connection is made to interpersonal development and intellectual stimulation. Geared toward self-growth and balance, superceding challenges and raising awareness of the creative process, NEW MOVES helps us take another look at the definition of dance or yoga or even the art of movement, and allows us to realize how non-traditional physical education is very necessary.

Who does NEW MOVES serve?

NEW MOVES serves multicultural and socio-economically diverse communities; first in New York; second nationally, and third around the globe. Site-specific community outreach programs are presented at various locations, and many times for free or at a low cost (see Archives).

How is NEW MOVES different from other organizations?

NEW MOVES programs are site-specific, operating in many different locations. They are also tailored to the needs of the participants with many programs uniquely developed and suited to theme or goal of the project. Members of the organization are volunteers in and participants of the program; so in essence, the NEW MOVES Corporation IS the community.

How does NEW MOVES use its money?

NEW MOVES is a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit artistic, charitable and educational organization. Foundation money, tax-exempt contributions, funds raised and other revenue go to creating and sustaining the NEW MOVES programs, events and organization. There is one paid employee, with contractors hired to produce specific projects, but the majority who work for or contribute to the organization, in many cases, are volunteers.
